DESCRIPTION:
G. G. Brewster, Portsmouth, NH, presentation banjo, weight driven, 8-day, time only wall clock, rope twist, gold front, c1830
CONDITION:
the gilding and throat tablet were re-done maybe 60 years ago and with nice aging at this point. Lower tablet of 1812 naval battle is period, with some touch up to background. The movement was signed & dated (1833) on lower front plate, the name cut in with a graving tool, not a common method at this time, so name may have been added later [?]. Movement appears original to case and is attached with a single screw from the rear of the case back. Lead weight with duck bill hook is a proper replacement. Crazed dial surface appears old, with some chips; black has been strengthened. Ht 40"
